Application
Fixing tiles on floors
FARCOTILE BK1 is Suitable for fixing ceramic or stone tiles on floors, of residential and administrative areas it is mixed by 25% of its weight with water and applied with notched trowel.
Fixing tiles on floors and walls
According to international standards and requirements, Tile adhesives must have some specific characteristics against environmental and cyclic stresses. For improving the performance of BK1 it can be combined with liquid emulsion polymers like SA12 or SA46, this combination is suitable for bonding of all type of ceramics, tiles and mosaics to internal or external floors and walls. The recommended substrates are Gypsum boards, under floor heating, old tiles, cement boards, cementitious mortar, screeds and water immersion services like swimming pools.
Advantages
- Easy to mix and apply
- High flexibility when modified with SA12 or SA46
- High final bond strength when modified
- Suitable for immersion services like swimming pools and water reservoirs when modified with SA12 or SA46
Preparation of Adhesive
- For preparation of floor adhesive mix BK1 with 25% water of its weight.
- For modified adhesive, firstly dilute SA12 or SA46 with water to the ratio of 1(part):1 to 3(parts) then Mix mechanically or in case of small amounts with gloved hands with BK1 until a uniform and homogenous mixture is achieved.
- The optimum amount of dilution SA12 or SA46: water is 1(part):1(part). (volumetric)
- The consistency of the prepared paste must be adjusted to make the highest wet adhesion and not to be deboned easily and after removing the tile, the back of the tile must be fully covered with the adhesive.
- If the consistency of the paste be too high, the adhesion of tile on the substrate will be not good enough.
Mixing Ratio of BK1 with SA12 or SA46
- The flexibility of the hardened adhesive is improved by increasing the mixing ratio with water
- Each 20kg bag of BK1 is Mixed with approximately 5200 to 5400gr of diluted SA46 and for SA12 is 5400 to 6000gr depending on the dilution ratio
- Specific Gravity of prepared adhesive is around 1.65 to 1.75 kg/lit
Installation
- BK1 is applied to the substrate using a notched trowel; choose a trowel in order to achieve the maximum coverage of the back of the tiles. In some cases it is applied by spot bonding system
- The pot life of the prepared adhesive is 2hours at 25°c.
- It is not recommendable to apply adhesive on larger surfaces that it is possible to fix tiles before the skin effect appears on the adhesive surface, first spread the adhesive with the smooth side then draw the notched side through the mass.
- The tiles are Pressed / Twisted in place in the wet adhesive.
- The maximum thickness of applied BK1 is 5mm therefore for leveling and smoothing the substrate, it is recommend using modified motors with SA12 or SA46 or applying FARCO TOP 110.
- For highly absorbent substrates, wet the surface with clean water in addition dip the dusty or highly absorbent tiles in clean water prior to installation.
- As BK1 contains cement and emulsion polymers it is necessary to be applied at temperatures higher than 5°c.
- At cold condition and/or walls that the height is too high, install with at least one interval, minimum 6 hours.
- At present the dimension of the new designed tiles and their weight are high and also have the lowest absorbency, therefore for preventing sagging and highest efficiency it is needed to be applied in intervals.
Grouting
Grout the joints 1 to 3 days after setting of the adhesive.
